Rust free 1980 Triumph TR8. Car was parked in a dry garage since 1996. Absolutely rust free; probably one of the cleanest TR8’s in New England. Car was orig. sold in Florida, and then was garaged in Connecticut. Previous owner bought, but it needed carb work, so it just sat; not unusual for the Stromberg Carburetors.
I was looking for a TR6, but found this instead; but now a friend of mine is selling his TR6 and I don’t have room for 3 sports cars. I have gone through the entire electrical system and everything works. Cleaned all the grounds and connectors. Stripped the interior and washed the carpets and seats. Again, no rust on floors, pictures attached. The rugs are clean, but fairly worn; drive as is, or replace as you see fit. Car has original factory delivery documents, books, shop manual, all 5 alloy wheels, jack and tool bag. Car was repainted (color change) prior to 1996, and it was a very good job, including trunk and engine compartment. I would say the paint is an 8+. No cracks in dash or torn material. Car was stored with top up and it looks brand new, with clear scratch free windows.
Since the Strombergs are such troublesome carburetors I began the conversion to a Holley 4BBL setup which is what 90% of TR8 owners do. Woody at the Wedge Shop sells a turnkey setup manifold, carb & air cleaner that bolts on. 20+ HP from this setup. I have removed the carbs, all the smog equipment; air pump, lines and charcoal canister in preparation for the conversion. All parts are labeled and in boxes. Compression is 110-125 across all the cylinders.
I have a clean MA title for the car.
What car needs:
You repair Stromberg carbs (not recommended), or buy carb setup and install. Clutch master is frozen; new master, slave and hose is under $100. Probably want to go through the brakes, although the fluid is clean & pedal is firm. One rear wheel cylinder is weeping; $30 for new cylinders. Car has a new external fuel pump that was on when I bought it; I have not tried to run it.
If you have some mechanical abilities this is a great car to start with.
TR8’s were quite rare, only about 2000 of them built and the quality of build on the 8’s were better than the original TR7’s.
These were considered British Corvettes when they were introduced & the Buick Sourced 215 all aluminum V8 has lots of available parts to modify to get 200-250 HP.
Asking price $8,250 ONO. If I don’t sell I’ll just work on it over the winter and sell in the Spring for $10,000 +.
These cars are currently under valued & are sure to increase as the years go on.
